Dear Families,

We’re sharing the attached infographic to provide clear information about the upcoming Non-Homestead Millage Renewal vote on May 5, 2026.

This proposal is a renewal of an existing millage, not a new tax, and would continue funding for school operations at current levels. By law, this millage applies only to non-homestead properties, such as businesses, rental properties, and second homes—not primary residences.

In Michigan, school funding is based on a state formula, and districts like ours rely on non-homestead property tax revenue to support day-to-day operations, including staffing, programs, and student services.

The infographic outlines key details about how this funding works and what it supports within our district.

If you have questions or would like more information, please visit rapsk12.net or call 989-275-6600.

Thank you for taking the time to stay informed.

Infographic titled “Non-Homestead Millage Renewal FAQs” from Roscommon Area Public Schools. It explains that the May 5, 2026 vote is a renewal, not a new tax, continuing current funding levels with no more than 18 mills. The millage applies only to non-homestead properties such as businesses, rental properties, and second homes, not primary residences. It states that Michigan school funding relies on a state formula and local non-homestead property taxes. If the renewal fails, the district would lose about 68% of its funding, leading to program cuts, larger class sizes, reduced athletics, and staff reductions. The graphic includes school branding, a buck mascot, and a call to vote on election day.

School Operating Millage Renewal

Did you know the upcoming school operating millage is a renewal, not a new tax?

This proposal continues the existing 18 mills that have been collected on non-homestead properties (such as businesses, rental properties, and second homes) since Michigan’s property tax law changes in 1994.

✔️ No increase in the millage rate
✔️ No impact on primary residences
✔️ Continues essential funding for our schools - Curriculum supplies, school lunches, transportation, school personnel, athletics and extracurriculars.

This renewal helps maintain the resources and opportunities our students rely on every day.

Learn more and stay informed as you prepare to vote!

Any questions? Call the Board of Education office at 989-275-6600.

Dear RAPS School Community,
As we begin planning for the 2026–2027 school year, we would like to share some important calendar information that has been finalized. In Michigan, local school districts align certain dates with the common calendar established by our Intermediate School District (COOR ISD). This ensures consistency for families and staff across the region. At this time, the following dates are confirmed and will not change:
Winter Break: December 23, 2026 through January 1, 2027
Spring Break: March 29 through April 5, 2027
We are sharing these dates now to assist families with advance planning. Additional details for the full school calendar—including the first and last day of school, professional development days, and other key dates—will be released once finalized.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to another successful school year ahead.

*We found out at the end of the day that the Breslin Center is cashless. They only accept credit card; no cash and no Apple Pay. Because of this, the spec bus will stop on the way down and on the way back so kids can grab food. Sorry for the late notice. #gobucks

CONGRATULATIONS to the Bucks on their huge win last night over Morley Stanwood 67-63 in OT! The Bucks move to play tomorrow afternoon!

Due to a limited number of drivers, we will run one spec bus for RHS students and capping it at 50 students (so we have enough room where kids can ride relatively comfortably). Students will need $10 for tickets and money for concessions while at the game. Permission slips will need to be picked up, signed, and turned in. No permission slip = no game.
