RAPS Attendance Policy
Meetings with RAPS administrators, 34th Circuit Court and Gerrish Township Police Department were held on November 1, 2012 and on March 13, 2013 concerning attendance. Based on the requirements set forth by the Circuit Court, the following policies regarding attendance, for both excused and unexcused absences, will continue to be followed:
1. Attendance letters will be sent home after a student has accrued four absences. A meeting will take place between an administrator, counselor, and student. The date of this meeting will be documented.
2. Attendance letters will be sent home after a student has accrued eight absences. A meeting will take place between an administrator, counselor, student, and parent(s) or guardian(s). This meeting with parent(s)/guardian(s) can take place in person or over the phone. The date of this meeting will be documented.
3. Attendance letters will be sent home after a student has accrued ten absences. At this time, paperwork may be filled out and filed with 34th Circuit Court for possible truancy. The date of paperwork submission will be documented.
Number of absences for notifications is based on recommendations from the 34th Circuit Court.
If absence is due to an illness or medical appointment, we need an acknowledgement of doctors' office visit from or signed by a medical professional. Based on 34th Circuit Court requirements, we must have documentation of absences and we still need the call into school to excuse the absence.
The number of absences for notification was set through discussion with the Circuit Court and law enforcement and will be followed throughout RAPS.
