Advanced Placement Overview
The College Board's Advanced Placement (AP) Program offers students the opportunity to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. The students have the opportunity to receive college credits by scoring well on the AP exams. The AP Program offers students stimulating and challenging courses while enhancing high school programs.
The course offerings allow students to explore interests and discover new passions. AP courses can help students acquire the skills and habits they'll need to be successful in college. They will improve writing skills, sharpen problem-solving abilities, and develop time management skills, discipline, and study habits.
Most four-year colleges in the United States give students credit, advanced placement or both on the basis of AP Exam scores.

Scheduling Courses and Registering for the Test
Annually, each student completes an Educational Development Plan (EDP) that details the courses the student intends to take all the way through graduation. The plan includes post-secondary intentions as well. This process helps students choose courses strategically, so that if they are interested in AP classes, they have taken the necessary pre-requisites. Further, students interested in taking AP courses must have the teacher's recommendation in order to register for the class.
AP Testing dates are typically in early May. Testing materials are ordered in mid March. Students taking the test must pay a deposit for the testing materials and pay for the test in full by the testing date or the student will not be allowed to take the test.
Contact Ms. Spencer for testing dates and deadlines.
There are fees for each exam. Fee reductions per exam are available in cooperation with the College Board, the State of Michigan, and RAPS for students with financial need.
Online AP Classes
Students interested in taking online AP classes that are not offered at Roscommon High School or are in an irresolvable conflict in their class schedule should contact Ms. Spencer for further information. AP classes may be taken online only if there is a legitimate conflict with a core academic offering in the schedule.
