RAPS Instrumental Music

About Our Award Winning Program

The Roscommon Area Public Schools instrumental program is a 5-12 program.  Students start in the fifth grade learning the basics of playing an instrument and being part of an instrumental ensemble.  As the students progress through middle school, students are given more opportunities to perform in various setting including, local concerts, performances, clinics, and even experiment with steel drum.

Students at the high school level are able to participate in marching band, symphonic wind ensemble, jazz band, steel drum band, percussion ensemble, and second instrument class.  Students are also given opportunity to travel abroad as musicians and ambassadors for the community.

RAPS students and groups have received numerous awards at various festivals around the state including, M.S.B.O.A. band festivals, M.S.B.O.A. solo and ensemble festivals, NMU Jazz Festival, Alma College Jazz Festival, Thornapple Arts Council Jazz Festival, and The Great Lakes Steel Pan Festival.  Through hard work and dedication, the RAPS instrumental music program strives to give each student a quality life experience through music.
